I met Cornell Thomas years ago on the campus of Sussex County Community College where he was head coach of the men’s basketball team. Some of our first interactions were on the sidelines during televised games, when I would be reporting and getting comments from him. I quickly recognized Cornell as a positive influence to everyone around him, myself included. He’s eager to see people reach their potential and encourages them to chase their dreams.
Currently an assistant coach for Blair Academy and the owner of Crossroads Basketball, Cornell is also a motivational speaker and author. His debut book, “The Power of Positivity: Controlling Where the Ball Bounces,” was released in the fall of 2013. I saw this as a great opportunity to learn more about Cornell… What’s his life story? What led him to this art form? What messages does he want to send? I thought others would be interested in finding out as well.
So we set up an interview at his home, and captured it on film with the help of videographer Nicholas Binder. Sure enough, Cornell shared insights on maintaining a healthy outlook throughout all aspects of life and what drove him to adopt those ideals. As expected, I found our conversation inspiring. I hope those who watch below will feel the same, and if they haven’t yet, pick up his books. (Yes, he’s already written another: “The Power of Me: Army of One.”)
